Qatar vs Switzerland prediction is an interesting one. You’ve got Qatar, the reigning Asian Cup champions who are still trying to prove they belong on this stage after a rough home World Cup in 2022. Then there’s Switzerland, one of those teams that always seem to turn up at major tournaments and make life difficult for everyone.
The game kicks off at 8:00pm on Saturday 13th June 2026 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California. It’s Qatar’s first Group B match and probably their biggest test yet since qualifying for a World Cup on merit for the first time in their history.
Qatar arrive under Julen Lopetegui with a squad packed full of familiar names from their Asian Cup-winning era. Akram Afif of Al Sadd remains the creative spark and biggest attacking threat. He also tends to handle a lot of Qatar’s dead-ball situations, including free-kicks and penalties. Almoez Ali, now playing for Al-Duhail, still leads the line and has a habit of popping up in important matches.
Veteran Hassan Al-Haydos brings experience from midfield, while Karim Boudiaf adds balance and composure. One thing Qatar will need is discipline defensively because Switzerland are very good at punishing mistakes in transition.
Switzerland have more experience at this level and a squad filled with players from Europe’s top leagues. Granit Xhaka, currently with Sunderland after his successful spell at Bayer Leverkusen, is still the heartbeat of this side. He usually takes penalties and many of their set-pieces too.
Manuel Akanji of Inter Milan anchors the defence, while Gregor Kobel from Borussia Dortmund gives them real security in goal. Going forward, Nottingham Forest winger Dan Ndoye adds pace and directness, and Noah Okafor of Leeds United offers movement across the front line.
Meshaal Barsham; Pedro Miguel, Bassam Al-Rawi, Lucas Mendes, Homam Ahmed; Karim Boudiaf, Abdulaziz Hatem, Mohammed Waad; Akram Afif, Almoez Ali, Ahmed Alaaeldin
Gregor Kobel; Silvan Widmer, Manuel Akanji, Nico Elvedi, Ricardo Rodriguez; Granit Xhaka, Denis Zakaria, Remo Freuler; Dan Ndoye, Breel Embolo, Noah Okafor
Switzerland look the more balanced side coming into this one. Their recent results have been solid overall despite the entertaining defeat against Germany, and they’ve shown they can handle different styles of opposition.
Qatar will probably sit deeper and try to counter through Afif and Almoez Ali. That worked brilliantly during their Asian Cup success, but facing a European midfield with the control and physicality of Xhaka, Zakaria and Freuler is a different challenge altogether.
One angle worth looking at is Switzerland to edge possession and create more chances through wide areas. Ndoye against Qatar’s full-backs could become a key battle.

Switzerland feel like the safer pick here. They’ve built a reputation over the years for being difficult to beat at major tournaments, and that consistency matters. This is their 13th World Cup appearance, while Qatar are still learning how to compete regularly at this level.
That said, Qatar shouldn’t be underestimated. People forget they actually beat Switzerland in a friendly back in 2018 thanks to an Akram Afif goal. They’ve also won back-to-back Asian Cups and reached the semi-finals of the CONCACAF Gold Cup a few years ago. So there’s quality there.
Still, Switzerland just look stronger across the pitch. Their defensive organisation is usually excellent and they carry more experience in high-pressure matches.
Match Prediction: Switzerland to win. Bet with bet365.
A narrow Switzerland win feels the most realistic outcome.
Qatar can stay competitive for long periods because they defend in numbers and know how to frustrate teams. But Switzerland’s movement and experience should eventually open things up.
Best correct score shout: Qatar 1-2 Switzerland.
Another possible result is 0-2 if Switzerland score first and control the tempo.
Correct Score Prediction: Qatar 1-2 Switzerland. Bet with bet365.
This doesn’t scream high-scoring chaos, even though Switzerland’s recent game against Germany ended 4-3.
World Cup openers are often cautious and Qatar are unlikely to play too openly against stronger opposition. Lopetegui will probably prioritise shape and discipline first.
Under 3.5 goals looks sensible here.
Both teams scoring could still land though because Qatar have enough attacking quality through Afif and Almoez Ali to create opportunities.
Over/Under Prediction: Under 3.5 Goals. Bet with bet365.
A reasonable bet builder for this match could include:
Switzerland’s midfield battle and Qatar’s threat on the break make that combination feel realistic.
Bet Builder Tip: Switzerland to win, both teams to score, and Granit Xhaka to be booked or score from outside the box. Bet with bet365.
