Who do you think will win?

Arsenal arrive at the Amex this weekend with a chance to do something genuinely special. Eight wins from eight in all competitions. Four Premier League victories from four. The kind of start that makes you stop scrolling and actually pay attention. Mikel Arteta has built something different this season and Saturday is about proving that difference is real, not just a product of a kind early draw of fixtures.

Brighton are no pushovers though. Fabian Hurzeler’s side have been one of the most entertaining teams in the division so far, they sit fifth in the table and they come into this having beaten Manchester United at Old Trafford in midweek after being two goals down. The Amex is a tough place to go. But Arsenal have history here, and class tends to tell.

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Arsenal Match Details

This Premier League fixture takes place at the Amex Stadium in Falmer, a ground that has developed a proper atmosphere since Brighton established themselves as a top flight club. It is one of the more visually striking venues in the division, and with both sides flying high early in the season, the crowd should be well up for it. All the context you need is right there in the table: two clubs who genuinely believe they can make a run at something this term.

Team News

Arsenal are carrying a fair few injury concerns at the back, and Arteta will need to navigate his defensive options carefully. Brighton have their own absentee list, though Hurzeler gets a couple of players back just in time.

  • William Saliba (back) is out for several weeks and will play no part here
  • Ben White (groin) is a major doubt and unlikely to feature
  • Cristhian Mosquera (muscle) is also touch and go
  • Jurrien Timber returned from injury recently but his absence from the EFL Cup win over Ipswich was precautionary, and he should be available
  • Max Dowman starred against Ipswich in midweek but drops back to the bench as Arteta restores his first XI
  • For Brighton, Georginio Rutter is back after an ankle issue and in the squad
  • Jaouen Hadjam picked up a knock at Old Trafford and is uncertain for Saturday
  • Ferdi Kadioglu returns to the starting eleven regardless
  • Evan Ferguson (ankle), Kaoru Mitoma (thigh), Yankuba Minteh (calf), Mats Wieffer (knee), Michael Svoboda (knee), Stefanos Tzimas (knee), Jack Hinshelwood and Zadok Yohanna all remain sidelined
  • Femi Azeez (thigh) also misses out

Predicted Lineups

Arteta rotated heavily for the EFL Cup win over Ipswich and will now go back to his strongest available side. With Saliba and White both missing, Timber slots in alongside Ezri Konsa at centre back, which is not ideal but it is the hand Arteta has been dealt. Riccardo Calafiori covers the left, Bruno Guimaraes and Declan Rice anchor the middle, and the forward line picks itself.

Hurzeler should name a similar starting eleven to the one that dismantled Coventry 5-0 last weekend, with midweek hero Maxim De Cuyper returning to his wide left role. Kadioglu comes back in at right back, Yasin Ayari continues in midfield, and Charalampos Kostoulas leads the line. It is a talented, energetic side even without several of their better known players.

  • Brighton: Verbruggen; Kadioglu, Dunk, Vuskovic, Boscagli; Gross, Ayari; Gomez, Yalcouye, De Cuyper; Kostoulas
  • Arsenal: Raya; Timber, Konsa, Gabriel, Calafiori; Guimaraes, Rice; Saka, Odegaard, Tzolis; Havertz

Recent Form

Arsenal have been relentless. The win at Sunderland last weekend was not pretty, with David Raya needing to save a penalty and Arteta fuming on the touchline about refereeing decisions, but they got the job done. Bruno Guimaraes curled one in and Bukayo Saka converted from the spot. Then on Tuesday, a rotated side strolled past Ipswich 4-2 in the EFL Cup, with 16-year-old Max Dowman scoring twice to become the first male player to net a brace for Arsenal before his 17th birthday. That kind of squad depth is frightening. Four wins from four in the league, joining only the 2003-04 Invincibles, the 2004-05 side and the 2022-23 squad to have won each of their first four Premier League games of a season.

Brighton have matched Arsenal’s energy if not their consistency. They put five past newly promoted Coventry last weekend, with Lewis Dunk somehow finding time to thunder in a 30-yard goal of the season contender alongside strikes from Kostoulas, Yalcouye, Ayari and Gross. They have now scored 13 Premier League goals this season, at least three more than any other top-flight side in England. Then on Wednesday they went to Old Trafford and came back from 2-0 down to win 3-2, becoming the first side in 50 years to beat United at home after trailing by two goals. If you want momentum, Brighton have it in buckets.

The one blip worth noting is a home draw with Leeds United that briefly interrupted the goal glut. Brighton can look vulnerable when teams sit deep and hit them on the counter, and Arsenal have the personnel to do exactly that. Arteta’s side can suffocate a game or blow it open depending on what the situation demands, and that tactical flexibility is what separates them from most of the chasing pack.

Head-to-Head Record

Whatever buzz Brighton are building right now, the head to head record is uncomfortable reading for the home faithful. Arsenal are unbeaten in their last seven meetings with Brighton, a run that covers some seriously competitive fixtures. Last season the Gunners did the double over the Seagulls in the Premier League, and there is a pattern here of Arsenal finding a way to control these games even when Brighton come at them with everything they have.

The Amex has not been the fortress against top sides that Brighton might want it to be in this particular fixture. Arsenal have shown repeatedly that they know how to manage the threat Brighton pose going forward, and that experience of winning these games counts for a lot when you are talking about a side that has been built to go deep into title races.

Key Stats

  • Brighton have scored 13 Premier League goals this season, more than any other English top-flight club by at least three
  • Arsenal are unbeaten in their last seven meetings with Brighton across all competitions
  • Arsenal have won each of their first four Premier League games for only the fourth time in the club’s history, a list that includes the 2003-04 Invincibles

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Arsenal Betting Tips

This is one of the most intriguing matchups of the Premier League weekend so far. You have the most prolific attack in the division against a side who have not conceded in the vast majority of their competitive outings this term. Something has to give. The smart money says Arsenal’s defensive structure wins out over Brighton’s goal-happy tendencies, but you would be naive to write off the home side entirely given the form they are carrying into this one.

Both Teams To Score (BTTS) Prediction

No. Arsenal have been keeping clean sheets for fun and Raya is in the form of his life. Brighton score goals for breakfast, but Arsenal’s defensive shape is different from anything else they have faced. Lean towards no BTTS here, with Arsenal shutting Brighton out.

Corners Prediction

Expect a high corner count. Brighton like to get wide and whip balls in, Arsenal attack at pace and draw fouls and corners regularly through Saka and the forwards. Over 10 corners in this fixture looks very playable given how both sides operate when chasing the game or pressing for a second goal.

Over and Under Goals Prediction

Under 2.5 goals. It sounds counterintuitive given Brighton’s output this season, but Arsenal defend deep and well when they need to, and with a couple of defensive absentees Arteta may set his side up to be compact and dangerous on the break rather than opening up. A tight 1-0 or 2-0 type game feels more likely than a five-goal thriller.

Correct Score Prediction

Arsenal 2-0 Brighton. The Gunners have the quality and the system to keep Brighton quiet and nick it with a goal either side of half time. Saka from the spot or a Havertz header would not surprise anyone, and Raya keeping a clean sheet at the other end completes the picture.

First Goalscorer Prediction

Bukayo Saka. He is the heartbeat of this Arsenal side in the final third, he has already converted a penalty this season, and he tends to turn up in big away games when Arteta needs someone to break a game open. Brighton will know he is the danger man and still struggle to stop him.

Bet Builder Tip

Market Selection
Match Result Arsenal to Win
Both Teams To Score No
First Goalscorer Bukayo Saka

Arsenal winning to nil with Saka getting on the scoresheet ties together the strongest threads of this preview, and the combination reflects exactly how Arteta’s side have been operating at their best this season.

Final Match Prediction

Arsenal are the best side in the country right now and they have a historical edge over Brighton that cannot be ignored. Hurzeler’s men will come at them with pace and ambition, and there will be moments where the home crowd sense something is on, but Arsenal have the experience and the quality to see those moments off. The injury situation at the back is the only real concern, but Gabriel and Konsa are more than capable of holding it together.

Brighton 0-2 Arsenal. The champions stay perfect, Arteta smiles through gritted teeth about something or other in the post-match press conference, and the Amex goes home frustrated but knowing they gave it a proper go. That is roughly how this one plays out.
