Frosinone
ComoFrosinone are quietly doing something that a lot of people outside of Italy are sleeping on. Back in Serie A and already matching their best ever points tally at this stage of a top flight campaign, Massimiliano Alvini has this group competing and believing. The Stadio Stirpe has been a proper fortress so far, and with a productive, dribble heavy attack causing problems for everyone they face, the Canarini are not here just to make up the numbers.
Como, though, are on a completely different level of trajectory right now. Cesc Fabregas has built something genuinely exciting on the shores of Lake Como, and after making history in Europe and backing it up domestically, they arrive in Lazio as one of the most in form sides in the whole of Serie A. The gap between these two clubs in terms of squad depth and quality is significant, but football does not always care about that, and history in this fixture actually favours the home side. This is a more interesting game than it might first appear on paper.
This Serie A clash takes place at Stadio Stirpe in Frosinone, with the hosts looking to build on a promising opening to their latest top flight campaign before the international break gives everyone a chance to breathe. For Como, it is the final chance to cement their position at the sharp end of the early table before the two week pause kicks in.
Both managers have a few things to consider heading into this one, though neither is dealing with a crisis in terms of availability.
Alvini looks set to go with the shape and personnel that has given him the best results so far. Giorgi Kvernadze and Antonio Raimondo lead the attack, and with Ghedjemis restored to the starting eleven on the left, Frosinone have genuine pace and directness across the front line. The midfield will need to work hard to protect the back four against Como’s quality in the final third.
Frosinone: Palmisani; Oyono, Calvani, Monterisi, Bracaglia; Masini, Calo; Ghedjemis, Schmid, Kvernadze; Raimondo
Fabregas has a selection headache at striker that most managers would love to have, with Kean pressing Douvikas for the central role. Martin Baturina has been outstanding in away games specifically, and with three direct goal involvements across his last two on the road, he is nailed on to start. Nico Paz, Assane Diao and Baturina offer a creative threat behind the striker that very few defences in Serie A have handled comfortably this season.
Como: Butez; Couto, Ramon, Chalobah, Kaiki; Da Cunha, Milla; Diao, Paz, Baturina; Douvikas
Frosinone’s start to the season has been genuinely encouraging. Seven points from their opening four Serie A games is their best return at this stage of a top flight campaign, and the performances have backed the results up. Pushing Juventus hard at Stirpe showed they are not rolling over for anyone, and the 3-2 win over Venezia demonstrated a willingness to attack and create. Kvernadze has been electric in particular, scoring in back to back matches, while Raimondo already has four goals to his name. If you are writing these lads off on current form, you are missing something.
Como’s recent run, though, is something else entirely. Unbeaten in their last 10 Serie A matches stretching back to the tail end of last season, they have just made history by beating RB Leipzig in their first ever European fixture, then turned around and beat Parma 2-1 on Monday. Ten points from four Serie A games puts them just two behind the summit, and there is genuine conversation in Italy about whether this could be a three way title race involving Roma, Inter and Como.
The away form stat is the one that stands out most for this fixture. In 2026, no side has accumulated more points on the road than Como, and they are averaging two goals per away game across that stretch. The 4-1 hammering of Genoa is the most recent example of what they can do when they get into their rhythm away from home. They have momentum, quality and confidence in abundance heading into this one.
Here is where it gets interesting for the neutral. The two sides met twice during the 2022 to 2023 season when competing in lower divisions, and Frosinone won both encounters by a 2-0 scoreline. Zoom out further and the Canarini have won four of the last five league meetings between the clubs across Serie B and Serie C. History is firmly on the home side’s side, whatever division those results came in.
That said, this is a Como side operating at a level and with a budget that is almost incomparable to those previous meetings, so reading too much into lower league results from four years ago feels like a stretch. What it does tell you is that Frosinone know how to set up and compete against this opponent, and there is no psychological baggage for the home side going into this game.
Como’s quality and current form make them the obvious pick to take the points, but this is not a game where you should be expecting a routine away win. Frosinone are dangerous at home, their attackers are in form, and history gives them reason to believe they can pull something off. The smart money is on Como to edge through, but a few goals and some physical contest along the way feels very much on the cards.
Como like to dominate the ball and attack with numbers, which tends to generate corners, while Frosinone’s direct, dribble heavy style means they push forward quickly and force the play wide. Expect a decent volume here, and going over 9.5 corners for the match feels like a reasonable shout given how both sides approach the game with attacking intent.
Frosinone will need to compete physically to stay in this game, and when a promoted side is trying to stop a high quality, fast moving attack, cynical fouls and bookings tend to follow. Over 3.5 cards in this one is worth a look. Como’s pace and movement will drag Frosinone’s defenders into challenges, and a fiery atmosphere at Stirpe only adds to that.
Como to win 2-1 feels like the most natural landing spot for this one. Frosinone have the tools to score and they will get their moment, probably through Kvernadze or Raimondo, but Como’s attack has too much quality to be kept out completely and they have shown all season that they know how to close games out.
Martin Baturina is the standout name here. Three direct goal involvements in his last two away games, operating in pockets of space behind the striker where Frosinone’s midfield may struggle to track him. He is creating and scoring consistently on the road and the odds on him opening the scoring could easily be underestimating how well he is performing right now.
| Market | Selection |
|---|---|
| Match Result | Como to Win |
| First Goalscorer | Martin Baturina |
| Total Cards | Over 3.5 |
Baturina’s away form makes him an ideal first scorer candidate in a game where Como are expected to win, and the physical nature of this contest should take care of the cards side of things without any issues.
Frosinone will make Como work for it, and for a spell you could easily see the home crowd getting behind a side that is punching above its weight this season. Alvini’s men have genuine weapons and they have already shown they can hurt better sides than this at Stirpe. But Como have a squad depth, a tactical intelligence and a current momentum that is genuinely hard to stop.
Fabregas’s side should get over the line and make it five consecutive wins heading into the international break, keeping the pressure on Roma and Inter at the top. Frosinone will take heart from the performance, and this fixture might well be closer than the result suggests. Final call: Como to win 2-1.
