Three games in and still no points on the board. That is the grim reality facing Genoa as they walk out at Marassi this Saturday, a stadium that should be a fortress but has felt anything but that in the opening weeks of the new Serie A campaign. Daniele De Rossi was brought in to steady the ship, and his early impact after arriving ten months ago was real enough, but the pressure is already building in Liguria. Ask Fabio Grosso how quickly things can turn at this level. Fiorentina did not wait long to pull the trigger this week, and De Rossi will know the clock is ticking.

Coming to town are Frosinone, a side that looked like they might crumble after an opening day drubbing from Juventus but have since put back to back wins on the board against Fiorentina and Venezia. Massimiliano Alvini has his promoted side sitting seventh and playing with genuine confidence. This is a fixture that Genoa simply cannot afford to lose, and yet on current form, you would not back them to avoid exactly that.

Genoa vs Frosinone Match Details

Genoa host Frosinone at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris in Genova on Saturday the 12th of September 2026, with kickoff scheduled for 2:00pm. The match is the fourth round of fixtures in the 2026/27 Serie A season.

Team News

Genoa are not dealing with a particularly long injury list, which is something of a silver lining given everything else that has gone wrong for them lately. De Rossi does have a couple of absentees to work around though, and with the squad already lacking sharpness in front of goal, losing any attacking options is far from ideal.

  • Elias Havel is out with an ankle problem and will not feature on Saturday.
  • Lorenzo Venturino is also sidelined with a knee injury.
  • Milutin Osmajic is pushing for a start after scoring on his first outing for the club since joining this summer, and De Rossi will be tempted to keep him in the XI.

Frosinone head into this one in the best possible shape. Alvini has his full squad available, no injuries and no suspensions to deal with. Antonio Raimondo has been in brilliant form, and Giorgi Kvernadze has been picking up where Raimondo leaves off, contributing three goals and two assists across four appearances in all competitions so far this term. When a promoted side has that kind of firepower available and everyone is fit, it is a genuinely dangerous combination.

Predicted Lineups

De Rossi looks set to stick with a back three, deploying Bijlow in goal behind Marcandalli, Ostigard and Vasquez. Sabelli and Ellertsson should provide the width from wingback positions, with Sow and Baldanzi doing the legwork in the middle alongside the energetic Frendrup. Up front, Osmajic should lead the line after his goal on debut, with Colombo operating alongside him in support. Getting bodies forward and creating chances is the priority, because three clear cut opportunities from three games is nowhere near enough.

Frosinone are likely to line up in a 4231 with Palmisani between the sticks and a back four of Oyono, Calvani, Cittadini and Bracaglia. Masini and Calo should sit in the middle of the park, with Fini, Schmid and the ever threatening Kvernadze operating ahead of them. Raimondo leads the attack and, frankly, he is in the kind of form that defenders have nightmares about right now.

Recent Form

Genoa have simply not got going this season. Three Serie A matches, three defeats, zero points, and a defensive record that tells its own uncomfortable story. They have not kept a single clean sheet in any of their four competitive fixtures this campaign, and that includes a 4-1 Coppa Italia win over second tier Ascoli, where even against lower league opposition they shipped one. At the top end of the pitch it is no better. Only Atalanta have created fewer clear cut chances than Genoa in Serie A this term, with the Rossoblu fashioning just three in three games. That is a number that makes grim reading for a side already desperate for goals.

Frosinone lost their opening game to Juventus, which in fairness is not a result that defines your season when the opposition has the resources and quality of a Juventus side. What they have done since is far more impressive. A 3-0 win over Fiorentina followed by a 3-2 comeback against Venezia shows a team that knows how to score goals and knows how to find a way to win. Seven clear cut chances created in three Serie A matches puts them well ahead of Genoa in that department, and the fact that Raimondo alone has four goals from six Frosinone strikes gives you an idea of just how clinical they have been. Alvini has this group playing with the kind of hunger and organisation that many expected them to lack after promotion.

The contrast in form between these two sides could hardly be starker. Genoa are searching for their first point. Frosinone are looking for their third straight win. That context matters enormously heading into Saturday afternoon.

Head-to-Head Record

Frosinone have actually found something of a groove against Genoa in recent years, which will not make comfortable reading for the home faithful. In the last three meetings between the two clubs, Frosinone have won two and drawn one. Before that run, they had gone seven games without a win against Genoa, losing five, so the shift in dominance is notable. It suggests that whatever psychological edge Genoa once had in this fixture has well and truly evaporated.

Marassi has not proven to be the safe haven Genoa fans would hope for in matches against the Canaries either. For a side already struggling for confidence at home this season, the knowledge that Frosinone have been relatively comfortable in this fixture lately adds another layer of concern before a ball is even kicked.

Key Stats

  • Genoa have created just three clear cut chances in Serie A this season, fewer than every team except Atalanta.
  • Frosinone have fashioned seven clear cut chances, more than double Genoa, despite also being a newly promoted side.
  • Antonio Raimondo has scored four of Frosinone’s six Serie A goals this term, making him one of the most in form forwards in the division right now.
  • Genoa have failed to keep a clean sheet in any of their four competitive matches this campaign.
  • Frosinone have won their last two Serie A meetings with Genoa and drawn the one before that.

Genoa vs Frosinone Betting Tips

On paper, this looks like a game that heavily favours the visitors. Frosinone are sharp, confident and full of goals. Genoa are struggling at both ends and have yet to give their supporters anything to shout about. The smart money looks to be on Frosinone, but with the home side desperate for a result, there should be enough chaos in this game to make several markets interesting.

Both Teams To Score (BTTS) Prediction

Yes, both teams to score looks very appealing here. Genoa have not kept a clean sheet all season and Frosinone clearly have the attacking quality to find the net, while Genoa will be throwing everything at this given the pressure on De Rossi. Even if the Grifone struggle to create genuine chances, the desperation of the situation means they are likely to find at least one opening. Back BTTS at yes.

Over & Under Goals Prediction

Over 2.5 goals feels like the right call given what we know about both sides. Frosinone have scored three in each of their last two wins, Genoa have conceded in every game, and a home side chasing their first points of the season is likely to leave themselves open at the back. There is enough attacking intent on both sides to expect this one to tick past two and a half goals without too much trouble.

Correct Score Prediction

Given Frosinone’s recent goalscoring form and Genoa’s defensive frailties, a 2-1 win for the visitors looks the most likely outcome. Genoa will grab one, probably from Osmajic who is keen to make his mark, but Frosinone’s firepower should be enough to take all three points back down the motorway.

First Goalscorer Prediction

Antonio Raimondo is the standout pick here. Four goals in three Serie A games, leading the line with real confidence for a side that is playing through him constantly. He has the movement and the sharpness to get in behind Genoa’s back line, and with De Rossi’s side already susceptible at the back, the conditions are perfect for the striker to add to his tally. Back Raimondo to score first.

Corners Prediction

Over 9.5 corners looks worth a look in this one. Frosinone have been getting forward in numbers and attacking with width through Kvernadze, which naturally generates corners. Genoa, meanwhile, will be pushing men forward in search of goals as the game progresses, leaving themselves open on the counter and inviting pressure. Both sides have reason to attack, and that should translate into a decent corners count by the final whistle.

Cards Prediction

This has the ingredients of a fractious one. A home side under enormous pressure, trailing to a promoted team, with the gaffer’s job potentially on the line. Frustration tends to boil over in those circumstances, and Genoa players are likely to go in a bit harder as the game gets away from them. Over 3.5 cards feels reasonable, with the Genoa midfield likely to contribute a couple of bookings if things are not going their way.

Bet Builder Tip

Combine Frosinone to win, both teams to score, and Antonio Raimondo to score at any time for a solid bet builder. Frosinone are the form side, BTTS is well supported by both teams’ records, and Raimondo is in the kind of goalscoring form that demands you back him to find the net. Three selections that all point in the same direction and complement each other nicely.

Final Match Prediction

It is hard to see where a Genoa win comes from on current evidence. Their attack has been toothless, their defence has leaked in every single game, and they are up against a Frosinone side that is not just confident but genuinely dangerous in the final third. De Rossi will be urging his players to dig deep at Marassi, and there will be a crowd behind them willing them on, but football is ultimately decided by chances created and goals scored, and right now Frosinone are better at both.

Frosinone to win 2-1 is the call. Genoa grab a consolation to give the fans a brief moment of hope, but Alvini’s side have enough quality to see it out and pick up a result that would truly announce their return to the top flight. Another pointless afternoon for the Grifone, and more questions for De Rossi to answer come Sunday morning.
