VenueThe BBSP Stadium Rugby Park
CompetitionScottish Premier League
Who do you think will win?

Kilmarnock head into this one off the back of their first league win of the season, and there is no doubt that result against Hibs will have lifted the mood around Rugby Park considerably. One win does not fix everything when you are sitting at the foot of the Scottish Premiership table, but momentum matters, and Neil McCann will be desperate to channel that energy into something more sustainable. Hearts, on the other hand, arrive having been knocked off their stride by a 2-1 defeat to Falkirk in midweek. Wouter Vrancken has built something genuinely solid in Edinburgh this term, but that loss will have stung, and there will be pressure on the Jambos to respond.

On paper this looks like a comfortable away win waiting to happen. Third against bottom, a side full of confidence against one that has spent most of the season in survival mode. But football rarely plays out the way the table suggests, and a freshly fired up Kilmarnock at Rugby Park, with their fans finally having something to cheer about, could make this a very uncomfortable afternoon for Hearts.

Kilmarnock vs Hearts Match Details

This Scottish Premiership matchday seven fixture takes place at Rugby Park in Kilmarnock. It is a ground where Hearts have struggled recently, and the atmosphere generated by a home crowd daring to dream after that Hibs win could play a real part in how this one unfolds.

Team News

Kilmarnock are without a couple of notable names, which will test McCann’s options as he tries to build on Tuesday’s result. Hearts are dealing with their own injury list heading into the trip west.

  • Robbie Deas is ruled out for Kilmarnock with a foot injury
  • Djenairo Daniels is suspended after picking up a red card in the win over Hibernian
  • McCann is likely to keep faith with the rest of the squad that beat Hibs
  • Tom Renaud, Craig Halkett, Malachi Fagan-Walcott and Ageu are all unavailable for Hearts through injury
  • James Wilson is fit and expected to lead the line for the Jambos after a purple patch in front of goal

Predicted Lineups

Kilmarnock will almost certainly line up in the same shape that ground out that vital win against Hibernian. McCann has found something that works and the suspensions and injuries mean his hand is partly forced anyway. Stryjek starts in goal, with a back four of Kamara, McCarthy, Stanger and Schjonning-Larsen. Lowery and Rice anchor the midfield, with Ring, John-Jules and Kiltie pushing forward in support of Hugill up top. George Stanger will be full of confidence after scoring the winner in midweek.

Vrancken has his own selection headaches at the back given the injury list, but there is still plenty of quality available. Reus starts in goal behind a defensive line of Altena, McCart, Findlay and Milne. Dhanda and Mendy sit in the engine room, with Miller, Braga and McPake given licence to supply Wilson, who has been in brilliant form and will be the man Hearts look to for the decisive moment.

Recent Form

Kilmarnock’s start to the 2026-27 season has been rough reading. They were torn apart 4-3 on the opening day by newly promoted St Johnstone, then shipped nine goals across back-to-back thrashings against Celtic and Dundee United. A 1-0 defeat to St Mirren followed before they finally stopped the rot with a goalless draw against Aberdeen. That Aberdeen story has a bitter twist too, because the draw was followed within days by a penalty shootout exit in the Scottish League Cup quarter-finals against the same opponents. It has been a miserable run. The 1-0 win over Hibs is the one bright spot, and McCann will be hoping it marks a genuine turning point rather than a false dawn.

Hearts look far more settled by comparison. After losing their opener to Aberdeen, they put together four consecutive Scottish Premiership wins, which is the kind of run that builds belief and cohesion throughout a squad. The defeat to Falkirk last time out interrupted that momentum, and Vrancken will be aware that a second successive loss would start to dull the shine off what has otherwise been an encouraging start. James Wilson’s form is the headline stat for the Jambos. Five goals in seven appearances for a teenager is the kind of return that catches the eye, and he will be the man Kilmarnock’s defence fears most.

The contrast in form between these two sides is stark. Hearts have 12 points from six games. Kilmarnock have four. But context always matters in football, and a home side with nothing to lose and a crowd roaring them on after a confidence-boosting win can be a genuinely awkward proposition, even for a team of Hearts’ quality.

Head-to-Head Record

Hearts’ most recent visit to Rugby Park ended in a 1-0 defeat back in March 2026, which will be at the back of Vrancken’s mind as he prepares his side for this one. Before that setback, the Jambos had won back-to-back trips to Kilmarnock, so there is no consistent pattern that heavily favours one side at this venue. What it does tell you is that Rugby Park is not a ground Hearts can simply turn up to and expect to take three points without a proper fight.

Kilmarnock clearly have the ability to make life difficult for Hearts in this fixture. Whether their current squad, still finding its feet under McCann, can replicate that kind of defensive stubbornness after such a torrid run of results is the key question heading into Saturday.

Key Stats

  • James Wilson has scored five goals in his last seven appearances for Hearts, making him the clear danger man in this fixture
  • Kilmarnock conceded 14 goals in their first four league games of the season before tightening up, which suggests defensive vulnerability remains a concern
  • Hearts have lost only one of their six Scottish Premiership games this season, giving them one of the better defensive records in the division

Kilmarnock vs Hearts Betting Tips

Hearts are the team in form, they have the better players and they have a point to prove after the Falkirk setback. But Kilmarnock at home on the back of a confidence-boosting win is not a fixture to dismiss lightly, and the smart money is on this being a closer contest than the league table implies. Here is where the value looks best.

First Goalscorer Prediction

James Wilson is the standout pick here. Five goals in seven games for a teenager still finding his feet at this level is a remarkable return, and with Kilmarnock’s defence having been leaky for large parts of the season, Wilson looks like excellent value to open the scoring for the Jambos.

Corners Prediction

Hearts tend to be a proactive side that gets forward in numbers, and Kilmarnock under pressure will invite set piece situations. With Killie also likely to push men forward late on if they are chasing the game, expect plenty of dead ball situations. Over 9.5 corners looks a solid call for this one.

Over and Under Goals Prediction

Kilmarnock have been involved in some high-scoring games this season, and Hearts have the attacking quality to hurt them. With both sides having reasons to attack, over 2.5 goals is the pick here, even if the 1-0 at Rugby Park last March adds a note of caution.

Both Teams To Score (BTTS) Prediction

Kilmarnock showed against Hibs that they can find the net, and Hearts despite their defensive improvement have not been completely watertight. With Kilmarnock at home and desperate for points, BTTS yes has appeal, though it is not the strongest selection in the card given Hearts’ ability to shut up shop when needed.

Bet Builder Tip

Market Selection
First Goalscorer James Wilson
Total Corners Over 9.5
Total Goals Over 2.5

Wilson’s goalscoring streak, a high-tempo match with both sides needing a result, and Kilmarnock’s tendency to concede set piece opportunities all point in the same direction here.

Final Match Prediction

Hearts are the better side and their reaction to the Falkirk defeat should be a positive one. Vrancken has enough quality in his squad to handle a spirited Kilmarnock side, even if Rugby Park will be a tougher venue than some expect. The worry for Killie is that their defensive record earlier in the season was alarming, and Wilson and company have the pace and movement to exploit any gaps.

That said, Kilmarnock have shown they can grind out results, and this will not be a stroll. Prediction: Kilmarnock 1-2 Hearts, with Wilson among the goals and a hard-fought away win securing three important points for the Jambos.
