Manchester United vs Ipswich Town prediction points towards a much-needed home response from the Red Devils when the two sides meet in the Premier League on Sunday, 30th August 2026. Kick-off is at 4:30 PM BST at Old Trafford, with Michael Carrick’s side looking for their first points of the 2026/27 season after a disappointing opening weekend.

United were beaten 2-0 by newly promoted Hull City despite dominating much of the game, while Ipswich have made an excellent start following promotion. Gary O’Neil’s side beat Sunderland 2-1 in their league opener before following it with a 3-1 Carabao Cup victory over Leicester City.

That makes this a more interesting contest than the difference in the two squads might initially suggest.

Manchester United vs Ipswich Town Match Details

Manchester United’s first Premier League home game of the season already carries plenty of pressure. Losing to one promoted team was bad enough, so Carrick will be desperate to avoid dropping more points against another.

The underlying numbers against Hull were at least more encouraging than the result. United had 71% possession and attempted 21 shots, but failing to score from that amount of attacking pressure highlighted the problem Carrick needs to solve.

Ipswich arrive at Old Trafford with confidence. They have won their opening two competitive matches of the campaign, scoring five goals, and will have little reason to approach this as anything other than an opportunity to test a United side still searching for rhythm.

The match takes place at Old Trafford on Sunday, 30th August, with kick-off scheduled for 4:30 PM BST.

How to Watch Manchester United vs Ipswich Town

Manchester United vs Ipswich Town will be shown live in the UK on Sky Sports as part of its Super Sunday coverage.

Supporters can also stream the match through Sky Go or a NOW Sports Membership.

Kick-off at Old Trafford is at 4:30 PM BST.

Team News

Manchester United remain without Manuel Ugarte, who is recovering from knee surgery. Carlos Baleba is available following his summer move and could come straight into Carrick’s midfield.

There could also be changes further forward following the blank at Hull. Marcus Rashford, Kobbie Mainoo and Benjamin Šeško all featured from the bench in that defeat and are pushing for starts.

Ipswich will be without Jack Taylor, while Florentino Luís and Jaden Philogene are doubts. Azor Matusiwa is progressing following summer surgery but appears unlikely to start.

O’Neil made nine changes for the midweek Carabao Cup victory over Leicester, meaning many of the players who started the Premier League win over Sunderland should be fresh.

Predicted Lineups

Manchester United predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Onana; Dalot, de Ligt, Maguire, Mazraoui; Baleba, Mainoo; Rashford, Fernandes, Diallo; Šeško.

Ipswich Town predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Scherpen; O’Shea, Diop, Greaves, Davis; Núñez, Lukić; Fatawu, Enciso, Clarke; Emersonn.

The most significant United change could be Šeško leading the attack. Zirkzee started against Hull, but Carrick has good reason to freshen things up after seeing his team fail to convert 21 attempts.

Ipswich are expected to return to something much closer to the side that beat Sunderland, with Jack Clarke pushing for a starting place after scoring the late winner in that game.

Recent Form

Manchester United’s Premier League campaign could hardly have started much worse in terms of the result. A 2-0 defeat at Hull left them without a goal or a point, despite controlling 71% of possession.

United’s inability to turn that control into goals will be the main concern. The positive is that creating 21 attempts suggests they were capable of getting into promising areas. Carrick now needs his attacking players to make that dominance count.

Ipswich have started in completely different fashion.

They opened their league campaign by beating Sunderland 2-1 before making it two competitive victories from two with a 3-1 Carabao Cup win against Leicester.

Five goals from those two matches should give O’Neil’s team belief that they can cause problems at Old Trafford rather than simply sitting back and trying to survive.

Head-to-Head Record

Manchester United won the most recent meeting 3-2 at Old Trafford in February 2025, although Ipswich certainly made life difficult for them.

Jaden Philogene scored twice for Ipswich in that match, while United had Patrick Dorgu sent off before Harry Maguire eventually settled the contest.

The longer-term record is much more favourable for United. They are unbeaten in their last eight home league meetings with Ipswich, winning six and drawing two.

That history strengthens the case for the hosts, although the previous meeting is a useful reminder that Ipswich are capable of making this fixture competitive.

Key Stats

Manchester United had 71% possession and 21 shots against Hull but failed to score.

Ipswich have scored five goals across their opening two competitive fixtures of the 2026/27 season.

United won the previous meeting between these teams 3-2 at Old Trafford.

Ipswich opened their Premier League campaign with a 2-1 victory over Sunderland.

Manchester United are unbeaten in their last eight home league meetings with Ipswich.

Manchester United vs Ipswich Town Betting Tips

United’s opening defeat makes it difficult to approach them with complete confidence, but this looks like an excellent opportunity to respond.

They controlled large parts of the Hull game without finding the finishing touch, and Carrick has attacking alternatives available if he decides changes are needed. Playing at Old Trafford should also allow United to take the initiative from the opening stages.

Ipswich deserve respect after their impressive start and could make this uncomfortable, but United’s greater individual quality and need for a response should eventually tell. The 5/11 available about the hosts reflects their position as clear favourites.

Match Result Prediction: Manchester United to win at 21/50. Bet with bet365.

Both Teams To Score (BTTS) Prediction

There are good reasons to think Ipswich can contribute to the scoring.

They have already found the net five times in two competitive matches and showed in the previous Old Trafford meeting that they can create problems for United.

Carrick’s side should carry considerably more attacking threat at home, particularly if Šeško and Rashford come into the starting XI. Ipswich’s willingness to attack could therefore produce opportunities at both ends.

For more selections from this market, our BTTS tips cover the latest fixtures.

BTTS Prediction: Both Teams To Score – Yes at 4/5. Bet with bet365.

Over & Under Goals Prediction

This could become fairly open if United score early.

The hosts need to show considerably more cutting edge after drawing a blank at Hull, while Ipswich have started the season with plenty of attacking confidence.

Their previous Old Trafford meeting produced five goals, and another competitive Ipswich performance could force United to score more than once if they are going to collect all three points.

Over/Under Goals Prediction: Over 2.5 goals at 8/13. Bet with bet365.

Correct Score Prediction

United should have enough attacking quality to get the result they need, but Ipswich’s early-season performances make a comfortable home victory difficult to take for granted.

O’Neil’s side have already demonstrated that they can score at this level, while United conceded twice at Hull. The hosts should create enough opportunities to edge the contest, but Ipswich could keep them working until the final whistle.

Correct Score Prediction: Manchester United 2-1 Ipswich Town at 8/1. Bet with bet365.

First Goalscorer Prediction

Šeško is expected to be given the opportunity to lead the United attack after appearing from the bench against Hull.

A home game in which United should spend plenty of time in Ipswich territory gives the central striker an obvious route into the contest. If Carrick’s side improve their finishing after the opening weekend, their likely number nine is an appealing candidate to make the breakthrough.

First Goalscorer Prediction: Benjamin Šeško at 4/1. Bet with bet365.

Corners Prediction

United’s dominance of possession against Hull gives a good indication of the sort of territorial control they could enjoy again at Old Trafford.

If Ipswich defend deeper for periods, United should spend plenty of time pushing into the final third. Sustained pressure can naturally create corners through blocked attempts, crosses and defensive clearances.

Ipswich should also have spells where they threaten on the counter, particularly if United are forced to chase the game at any stage, so there is scope for both teams to contribute.

Corners Prediction: Over 9.5 total corners at 8/11. Bet with bet365.

Cards Prediction

There should be enough competitive edge for cards to become a factor, particularly if Ipswich remain in the game deep into the second half.

United are already under pressure to produce a result after their opening defeat, while Ipswich will be determined to disrupt the hosts and protect their unbeaten start.

The previous meeting was particularly heated, producing eight yellow cards and a red, although one fiery encounter does not necessarily mean this one will follow exactly the same pattern. A competitive midfield battle and periods of sustained defensive pressure should still create opportunities for bookings.

Cards Prediction: Over 3.5 total cards at 10/11. Bet with bet365.

Bet Builder Tip

The strongest combination follows the expected pattern of United responding at home without assuming Ipswich will simply roll over.

A home victory forms the foundation, while the attacking potential on both sides makes a higher-scoring contest plausible. Adding United’s expected central striker to find the net gives the bet builder a player angle that fits naturally with the overall match prediction.

Bet Builder Tip: Manchester United to win, over 2.5 total goals and Benjamin Šeško to score anytime. Bet with bet365.

Final Match Prediction

Manchester United desperately need a response after losing their opener, and Old Trafford should provide Carrick’s players with the ideal setting to produce one.

The performance at Hull was not completely devoid of encouragement. United dominated possession and generated plenty of attempts, but the final touch was missing. Bringing players such as Šeško, Rashford, Mainoo and Baleba into the starting side could help change the balance.

Ipswich are unlikely to make things straightforward. Their start has been impressive and they have enough attacking threat to punish United if the hosts remain vulnerable defensively.

Even so, United should have the greater quality across 90 minutes and are fancied to edge an entertaining contest.ontrol.
