Home » Betting Tips » Stefanos Tsitsipas vs Kimmer Coppejans Prediction, ATP Shanghai Day 2 Betting Tips
Day 2 of first-round action at the Shanghai Masters brings 18 matches to the table, with Stefanos Tsitsipas among the headliners as he looks to kick off what has been a quietly encouraging late period in his career. There is plenty to get into, so here are my calls for three of the standout matches.
These two have not met before, so there is no head to head history to lean on here. Borges had the worst possible luck in Beijing, drawing Novak Djokovic in round one before he could even get going, so he will be grateful for a far more manageable opening opponent in Shanghai. Diaz Acosta is a clay court specialist at heart and his hard court record this season is minimal. His last match on the surface was a first-round exit at the US Open against Quentin Halys, and he has barely played on it all year.
Borges is a completely different animal on hard courts. His flat, penetrating groundstrokes are built for this surface and he has the consistency and experience to make short work of an opponent who simply has not put in the hard court miles this season. This should be comfortable from start to finish.
Another first-time meeting, and one where the form lines point pretty clearly in one direction. Munar has been playing some of the best tennis of his career in recent weeks. Beating Taylor Fritz on hard courts is a genuinely significant result, and pushing Carlos Alcaraz to three sets in Tokyo showed he is competing at a real level right now. A top 50 year-end ranking looks like a genuine possibility if he keeps this up.
Brooksby, on the other hand, has managed just 14 wins across the entire season and was beaten by Nikoloz Basilashvili in Chengdu, which tells you all you need to know about where his level is at. Munar’s heavier baseline game and his current momentum make him the clear pick. It might go three sets given Brooksby’s ability to dig in, but the Spaniard should see it out.
On paper the head to head looks alarming for Tsitsipas, with Coppejans holding a 3-0 record over the Greek. However, all three of those matches were played on the Challenger Tour before Tsitsipas had established himself at tour level, so that record should be treated with a large pinch of salt. Coppejans came through qualifying to get here, which is a decent achievement but not exactly a sign that he is in the form of his life.
Tsitsipas is back in Shanghai for the first time in two years and it has been seven years since he made a real run at this tournament. There have been encouraging flickers recently that he is rediscovering something close to his best, and on a big hard court like this his forehand and net presence should give him a decisive edge over a qualifier. The Coppejans head to head is a curiosity rather than a genuine concern.
