It’s match day 3 in the Vanarama National League North and the Heed make the 434 mile round trip to face AFC Telford United this Saturday.
Gateshead go into this match with a 50/50 record having claimed an away win and home loss so far this season. With home advantage maybe playing less of a role in Covid times, Gateshead will be hoping to keep their 100% away record.
Both teams have exited the FA Cup already this season with Gateshead losing to Chorley in the quarters of the qualifying rounds and Telford losing to Leiston on penalties in the semis during the week. Will the extra midweek game work in the Heed’s favour?
Last season’s fixture saw a 0-0 bore draw so fans tuning into the live stream, supplied by the home team this weekend, will be hoping for a bit more action this time around.
In terms of Gateshead team news, there’s updates on a couple of players returning to the squad with Nathan Dale back from injury and Ruairi Keating available after his one game suspension.
Pre-Match Build Up
Assistant manager Ian Watson is hoping Gateshead can carry on as they’ve started away from home. “Last season we didn’t start great on the road and then we picked up towards the back end of the season.
“This year we don’t want that to be the case, we want to be a good side away from home that is going to pick up points.
“It’s our first long trip but we don’t want that to affect us too much, we just want to turn up, be professional on the day, take what we’ve learned this week and put it into practice on Saturday to get a result.”
The betting markets have both teams evenly matched with most bookmakers paying the same odds for the home and the away win. There are a couple that favour slightly with the Heed so they may start slight favourites.
