Who do you think will win?

Two goals up and still losing. That is the story of Augsburg’s recent weeks, and it tells you everything you need to know about where Manuel Baum’s side are right now. They blew a two goal lead to lose 3-2 to Werder Bremen in their last Bundesliga outing, and before that they were pegged back to 2-2 by Leverkusen in the 89th minute after Gregoritsch had put them in control. Three consecutive games conceding twice, including a friendly against a second division side. The defence is leaking, and now Bayern Munich are coming to town.

Vincent Kompany’s side are unbeaten in seven matches across all competitions this season, winning six of them, and they are hunting down Borussia Dortmund at the top of the table. This is exactly the kind of fixture Bayern should be licking their lips at, and the numbers back that up heavily.

Augsburg vs Bayern Munich Match Details

This Bundesliga fixture takes place at the WWK Arena, Augsburg’s compact and atmospheric home ground where a sellout crowd will do their best to drag their side into it. Augsburg are fourth in the table heading into this one but under real pressure to hold onto that European spot, sitting level on seven points with four other clubs. Bayern arrive as the division’s second placed side, two points off Dortmund with their title charge well and truly underway.

Team News

Augsburg are short at the back at the worst possible moment, while Bayern are missing their most creative threat. Here is the current picture for both sides.

  • Noahkai Banks is out after suffering a knee lateral ligament injury on Under-21 international duty with Germany. The 19-year-old centre-back will not feature.
  • Tim Breithaupt remains sidelined with a toe injury and misses out again.
  • Steve Mounie is also unavailable for Augsburg up front.
  • Jamal Musiala is out for Bayern after tearing a muscle fibre in his right thigh during the warm up for Germany’s game against the Netherlands. He is working through individual training but is not ready to return.

Predicted Lineups

Baum will likely line up in his favoured shape with a back three of Calvin Brackelmann, Jeffrey Gouweleeuw and Chrislain Matsima covering for the absent Banks, with Marius Wolf and Hennes Behrens providing width as wing-backs. Han-Noah Massengo and Fabian Rieder should anchor the midfield, with Alexis Claude-Maurice and Robin Fellhauer operating just behind Michael Gregoritsch, who carries most of the attacking threat.

Kompany faces an interesting call in the absence of Musiala. Ismael Saibari looks the most natural fit at number ten, slotting in behind Harry Kane with Michael Olise and Luis Diaz operating either side of him. The spine of Pavlovic and Kimmich in midfield, Upamecano and Tah at the heart of defence alongside Laimer and Alphonso Davies, and Manuel Neuer in goal looks settled and strong.

Recent Form

Augsburg started this season in genuinely impressive fashion. A 3-0 win over Schalke on the opening day was followed by a brilliant 4-1 hammering of Eintracht Frankfurt. At that stage Baum’s side looked like a real threat in the top half. But things have unravelled since. The Leverkusen draw felt like two points dropped rather than one gained, and the Werder Bremen defeat was genuinely damaging. Surrendering a two goal lead at home is one thing. Doing it while conceding three is another. The defensive structure that looked solid in August is falling apart in October.

Bayern, by contrast, are rolling. Six wins from seven across all competitions, with only a 0-0 draw against newly promoted Schalke on September 5 breaking the sequence. They are two points off top spot in the Bundesliga and the sense around the club is that Kompany has this squad moving in the right direction. Kane is in form, the attacking options are varied and dangerous, and even without Musiala there is more than enough quality in that front line to cause serious problems.

The form trajectory of these two sides is heading in opposite directions. Augsburg were flying a month ago and are now shipping goals at an alarming rate. Bayern were slow to ignite early doors but are now finding their stride at exactly the right time.

Head-to-Head Record

There is one result in recent history that every Bayern fan would rather forget, and that is Augsburg’s 2-1 win at the Allianz Arena back in January. That made Augsburg the only club to beat Bayern in any of their last 47 Bundesliga matches, which is a remarkable stat and one that gives the hosts a sliver of genuine belief heading into this game.

Beyond that result though, the overall record heavily favours the visitors. Bayern have won seven of the last eight meetings between these two clubs, and the pattern across recent years points clearly in one direction. That January result was a shock, an anomaly, and if Augsburg’s leaky defence right now was a cause for concern then, it is a far bigger problem today.

Key Stats

  • Augsburg have conceded in each of their last three matches, shipping two goals in every single one of them including a friendly against second tier opposition.
  • Bayern have won six of their seven fixtures across all competitions in 2026-27, with their only dropped points coming in a 0-0 draw against Schalke.
  • The visitors have won seven of the last eight head-to-head meetings with Augsburg.

Augsburg vs Bayern Munich Betting Tips

Everything points toward Bayern doing the business here comfortably. Augsburg’s defensive frailty is a glaring concern against an attack that features Kane, Olise and Diaz, and even without Musiala the quality gap between these two squads is significant. The home side have fight and their fans will push them, but the underlying numbers for this one are hard to ignore.

Corners Prediction

Bayern dominate possession and press high, which tends to force teams deep and generate corners at both ends. Augsburg’s wing-backs push forward, which leaves space and invites pressure. Expect a high corner count, with Over 10 corners looking a solid shout in this one.

Both Teams To Score (BTTS) Prediction

Augsburg have scored in their last four competitive outings including netting twice against Leverkusen and twice against Werder Bremen. They carry a genuine threat through Gregoritsch, and Bayern’s back line, while solid, is not impenetrable. Coupled with the fact that Bayern should score at least once or twice themselves, BTTS Yes looks like reasonable value here.

Over and Under Goals Prediction

Three of Augsburg’s last four matches have produced four or more goals, and Bayern’s attacking firepower gives this game real goal scoring potential. The hosts will likely nick one but concede heavily. Over 3.5 goals appeals as the pick in the goals market.

Correct Score Prediction

Bayern to win 3-1 is the call. Augsburg will grab one through Gregoritsch or one of their attacking midfielders, but the visitors have too much across the pitch for the hosts to keep things tight. A comfortable away win but with Augsburg getting on the scoresheet fits the pattern of recent weeks for both sides perfectly.

Cards Prediction

Augsburg will have to work hard, foul often and put their bodies on the line to stay in this one. Midfield battles in Bundesliga fixtures of this nature tend to produce a handful of bookings, and with the hosts under pressure for large spells expect at least three cards across the ninety minutes. Over 3.5 cards is worth a look.

Bet Builder Tip

Market Selection
Both Teams To Score Yes
Over Goals Over 3.5 Goals
Bayern Munich To Win

Bayern winning while both sides score and the game goes over 3.5 goals fits the recent narrative perfectly and gives the bet builder a solid foundation.

Final Match Prediction

Augsburg go into this one with momentum heading the wrong way and a defence that has been cut open three games running. They have the quality to score, Gregoritsch is a constant threat and their attacking midfielders are capable on their day, but holding Bayern at bay for ninety minutes is a completely different challenge to anything they have faced recently.

Kompany’s side are focused, in form and two points off top spot with something to prove. Even without Musiala there is enough in that attack to carve Augsburg open multiple times. Bayern win this 3-1, moving further up the Bundesliga table and keeping the pressure on Dortmund at the top.
