Sports Acca Reaps £1M Win For Savvy London Punter

As English football fans were anxiously watching Tuesday’s historic 2-0 victory against Germany in the Euro2020 Round of 16, one lucky punter had already started his own celebrations after winning £1,039,554 on Sunday from a £11.50 six-fold accumulator with Betfair.

The punter, who wishes to remain anonymous, spoke before yesterday’s game saying “Hopefully, I’ll be able to celebrate even more if England beat Germany.  I think it will be a great game and I believe England will put the demons to bed and win 2-1”.  Fortunately, he hadn’t included the match result in his ACCA as the score at full-time was 2-0!

He had selected previous Euro2020 matches as part of his accumulator, together with golf tournaments.  The winning selection, together with the odds, was as follows:

• Croatia to beat Scotland 7-5
• England to beat the Czech Republic 11-20
• Steve Stricker to win Bridgestone Senior Players Championship 5-1
• Nelly Korda to win KPMG Women’s PGA Championship 14-1
• Viktor Hovland to win BMW International Open 13-2
• Harris English to win Travellers Championship 35-1

The combined odds were a staggering 90,396-1 and, after his initial five picks came good, the thrilling finish to the Travellers Championship on Sunday caused the punter some anxiety.  English did win the Championship but only after sinking a 20 foot birdie putt on the eighth hole of a play-off against fellow American Kramer Hickok and the punter commented “I thought I was going to have a heart attack when the winning putt went in, I couldn’t believe it.”  

Although the odds of winning all six of his bets were enormous, the odds still compare favourably with the National Lottery where the chances of winning the Lotto jackpot are 45 million to one.

The lucky fellow has already made plans for his enormous winnings, saying “I think I’m going to take a couple of months off work to take my partner travelling.  I like playing golf too and I’d like to take some friends to the USA to play TPC Sawgrass”.
