Another prestigious race at the festival is the Sussex Stakes, which was first run in 1841 but didn’t become a 1-mile race for three-year-olds until 1878. The race is widely regarded as one of the premier events on the British racing calendar. The legendary Frankel is the only horse to win the Sussex Stakes more than once, claiming victory in 2011 & 2012 at the festival.
Other races at the festival include the Nassau Stakes, which is open to fillies and mares aged three and older and covers a distance of one mile and two furlongs, and the Stewards’ Cup, which is a highly competitive sprint race run over a distance of six furlongs.
