This Scotland vs Morocco prediction has a bit of history hanging over it, with the same fixture back in 1998, but now it is 19 June 2026 in Boston, with an 11pm kick off UK time. Morocco arrive as a genuine contender after that semi final run last time. So the question is can Scotland come out on top against one of the best drilled sides in the world? Let’s look at the stats.

Scotland vs Morocco Team News

Steve Clarke has built Scotland around a core that has already taken the country to three major tournaments. The spine is very familiar now. Angus Gunn and the evergreen Craig Gordon are battling for that starting spot in goal, with Scott Bain pushing after getting himself back into the international picture. Clarke knows he can trust any of them to step in and handle the occasion.

Andy Robertson is the captain and emotional leader, even if he is not playing every minute at Liverpool these days. Kieran Tierney, when fit, gives Scotland extra quality on either side. On the right, Aaron Hickey is a big boost now that he is over his injury problems, with Anthony Ralston and Max Johnston providing depth. Central defence will likely be drawn from Grant Hanley, Scott McKenna, John Souttar and Jack Hendry, a group that has already survived plenty of high pressure nights together.

Midfield is Scotland’s pride and joy. Scott McTominay is the headline act after that outrageous overhead kick against Denmark, with John McGinn as the heartbeat and voice of the team. Billy Gilmour, Ryan Christie, Lewis Ferguson and Kenny McLean all bring different tools. Ben Gannon Doak offers rare pace out wide if he is fully over his knock, while youngster Lennon Miller is one Clarke has already looked at.

Up top, Clarke has leaned on Che Adams and Lyndon Dykes for work rate and hold up play. Lawrence Shankland forces the issue with his goals, and George Hirst is the current wildcard option. It is not the most glamorous forward line at the tournament, but it does the hard yards that Clarke demands.

Morocco arrive in a very different place. Walid Regragui has one of the most complete squads in the competition. They topped their qualifying group by winning all eight matches, scoring 22 and conceding just two, and then kept stacking wins until they set a new world record of 16 straight victories. Achraf Hakimi remains a huge figure on the right, flying up and down that flank, while Brahim Diaz and Hakim Ziyech carry the kind of attacking quality that can decide tight games.

Behind that star power is serious depth. The wider group includes talents like Eliesse Ben Seghir, Bilal El Khannouss and Amine Adli, plus experienced forwards such as Abderrazak Hamdallah, Achraf Bencharki and Tarik Tissoudali. Regragui can also lean on a strong local core from the Arab world based squad, with defenders like Marwane Saadane and Mahmoud Bentayg, midfielders such as Walid El Karti and Aschraf El Mahdioui, and several goalkeepers with plenty of minutes under their belts. It is a squad that feels built for tournament football.

Likely Lineups

Clarke does not rip things up for the sake of it, so the shape should look similar to the Haiti game, with maybe one or two tweaks depending on knocks and fatigue.

Scotland (4 3 3 or 4 2 3 1 type shape)
Gunn; Hickey, Hanley, McKenna, Robertson; McTominay, Gilmour; McGinn; Ferguson, Adams, Shankland or Dykes.

That gives Scotland experience at the back, control in midfield and a front line that can press and occupy Morocco’s defenders.

Morocco have more options, but the core pieces are pretty clear. Hakimi down the right, big names in the attacking roles, and a mix of European based and Arab world based players around them.

Morocco (talent packed, with a solid base behind the stars)
One of Chihab, Benabid or Ghanimi; Hakimi, Saadane, another central defender from the local core, Bentayg; a midfield unit built from El Mahdioui, Bougrine and El Karti; Ziyech and Brahim Diaz supporting a central striker such as Hamdallah, with Bencharki or Tissoudali also strong options.

Give or take a name, that is roughly how both coaches are likely to build their teams.

Scotland vs Morocco

This is the one where Scotland really find out where they stand. The Haiti opener is the must win, but this second game in Boston is the real measuring stick. Take something here and the route to the last 32 suddenly looks very real. Lose heavily and you are probably relying on other results and goal difference.

Morocco come into the tournament with real weight behind them. Semi finalists at the last World Cup, unbeaten in a group with Croatia, Belgium and Canada, then sending Spain and Portugal home in the knockouts. Under Regragui they have become incredibly hard to break down, and that 16 match winning run shows they are not just a one off story. They know how to handle expectation now.

Scotland are underdogs, no question. But they are not the same tentative side that went out early in France 98. This group has already survived a brutal qualifying campaign, with that 4 2 win over Denmark at Hampden showing they can ride the chaos and still find a way. McTominay and McGinn can go toe to toe with top midfields, and Clarke’s structure gives them a chance of staying in games against anyone.

Scotland vs Morocco Betting Tips

You do not need odds on the screen to feel how this might look. Morocco will probably see more of the ball, but they are not reckless. They are happy to strangle games, squeeze space and wait for a moment from someone like Hakimi, Ziyech or Brahim Diaz.

Scotland will try to stay compact and annoy them. Clarke’s side have shown they can soak pressure, nick set pieces and punish mistakes. The question is whether they can keep their concentration for the full ninety against this level of opposition.

A few logical angles.

  • Morocco to control long spells without turning it into a basketball game.

  • Scotland to lean heavily on McTominay and McGinn, especially on set plays and second balls.

  • A tight scoreline, with one goal either way feeling more likely than a blowout.

Scotland vs Morocco Match Prediction

Emotion says Scotland can ride the wave and grab something, especially with the Tartan Army taking over Boston. But when you strip it back, Morocco look one of the most balanced teams at this World Cup. They qualified without drama, they have that record winning streak, and they carry real star quality in key areas.

However, Clarke loves the underdog tag, and his players have delivered on big nights already. You can absolutely see them staying in the game, frustrating Morocco and maybe forcing a nervy spell late on.

Over the full match, though, Morocco’s extra quality in both boxes just gives them the edge. One mistake, one moment of brilliance from Hakimi thundering down the right or a flash of class from Ziyech or Brahim Diaz, and that might be all it takes.

Match Prediction: Morocco to win. Bet with bet365.

Scotland vs Morocco Correct Score Tips

Nothing wild really fits the way these sides usually operate. Morocco are efficient rather than explosive, and Scotland under Clarke rarely fall apart.

A couple of scorelines that make sense.

  • Morocco 1 0 Scotland

  • Morocco 2 1 Scotland

Both allow for a proper contest, with Scotland always in it, but Morocco just having that extra punch when it matters.

Correct Score Prediction: Scotland 1-2 Morocco. Bet with bet365.

Scotland vs Morocco Over & Under Goals Betting Tips

If you are looking at goals rather than a match winner, the rhythm of this one points more towards control than chaos.

  • Under 3 goals feels realistic, with both managers valuing shape and discipline.

  • Over 0.5 or over 1 goal still looks likely, given the attacking talent on the pitch and Scotland’s threat from set pieces.

You would be surprised if this turned into a free scoring end to end epic, but a couple of key chances at either end is very easy to picture.

Over/Under Prediction: Under 3.5 Goals. Bet with bet365.

Scotland vs Morocco Bet Builder Tip

If you were piecing together a simple bet builder tip around this game, you could logically think along these lines.

    • Morocco to avoid defeat

    • Under 3.5 goals

    • At least one notable attacking contribution from a Moroccan wide player or full back, with Hakimi an obvious candidate for involvement high up the pitch

Nothing too fancy. Just leaning on how these two teams normally approach big tournament matches.

Bet Builder Tip: Morocco double chance, under 3.5 goals, and Hakimi to score anytime. Bet with bet365.

    Key Stats

    • Morocco were semi finalists at the 2022 World Cup, the best performance by any African side.

    • They went unbeaten in a group with Croatia, Belgium and Canada, then knocked out Spain and Portugal.

    • In World Cup 2026 qualifying they won all eight games, scoring 22 and conceding only two.

    • Morocco set a new world record with a 16 match winning streak after their victory over Congo.

    • Scotland are back at a World Cup for the first time since 1998 and qualified after a dramatic 4 2 win over Denmark, with two stoppage time goals.

    • In this expanded format, even a third placed finish in Group C could be enough for Scotland to reach the last 32, with goal difference likely to be crucial.
