The most recent form figures of the joint bottom weight You Make Me Smile in the Tote Apprentice Handicap at Sligo at 3.20 don’t make for great reading, but the fact that she has seemingly improved beyond all recognition in her latest two starts over hurdles since her last flat run, means she has perhaps been initially overlooked in the market today.
Available at 11/1 each-way with Bet365, You Make Me Smile is today’s 1-star * Daily Value selection for WhichBookie, as if she translates that recent hurdles improvement back to this sphere, then she’ll wave goodbye to her lowly rating of 40 pretty quickly.
The nature of low-grade handicaps in Ireland has changed this season, as there is no longer a basement rating as such. What previously would have been a group of 46-65 handicaps say, has now been replaced with a large number of 0-60’s and 0-65’s.
This such 0-60 means that You Make Me Smile’s rating of 40 allows her now to run off the correct weight, and unlike in the UK, where a rating of 45 is the minimum, she doesn’t feature as ‘out of the handicap.’
Apologies for getting a little technical there, but essentially what I’m trying to say is that You Make Me Smile is a decent bet at 11/1 each-way with Bet365, as she looks to have turned a corner, and the nature of this race is winnable and very much favours her.
1.45 Newmarket – Pretty Polly Stakes (Listed Race) – 1m2f
FALAKEYAH created a big impression on her debut back in November last year and given how late she started as a 2yo I’m expecting big things as a 3yo.
She’s bred to appreciate this 10-furlong trip and further as the season progresses and I she is one horse who has stuck in my mind after travelling strongly but then quickening with ease after Jim Crowley asked her to get going. That was a sign that she’s a responsive filly but also one with huge potential which is why I’m willing to chance her in this despite the unexposed field, because I’d make her a shorter price than she’s available at.
FALAKEYAH – 1 STAR WIN @ 7/4
2.20 Newmarket – Dahlia Stakes (Group 2) – 1m1f
1,000 Guineas winners ELMALKA was beaten in each start following her Classic win but she was behind very good horses and was posting figures similar to her Guineas success. On her first start last season she was a little unlucky in the finish to not get the space to win the Fred Darling but this step up to 9-furlongs and a return to Newmarket under Silvestre De Sousa look like markers that she can get another win under her belt.
ELMALKA – 1 STAR WIN @ 9/4
3.35 Newmarket – 1,000 Guineas (Group 1) – 1m
This hasn’t been a race to follow the head of the market but this year’s renewal holds a very forward filly in DESERT FLOWER who has been highly talked about by her trainer for how well her preparation for this race has gone. She was all the rage after a piece of work on the course which saw her price contract to odds-on but that was at a stage where the participation of Lake Victoria was in doubt. She’s been cited as less forward and a horse who will certainly come forward from the race today. While she has form that’s arguably stronger than the favourites there really isn’t much between them however DESERT FLOWER looks made for this race and I think now she’s drifted a little she’s the one to side with.
DESERT FLOWER – 2 STAR WIN @ 5/4

We don’t provide tips for every race televised on ITV but as we cover all of the major racing festivals, many of our tips apply to ITV races and our tipsters will often provide an in depth preview of each day of festivals such as Cheltenham, Royal Ascot, Good wood and Galway.
Our racing tips are usually published in the morning but if you’d like to be notified when a new tip is posted, you can join our horse racing tips telegram group for free. This is recommended as the odds can fluctuate and move dramatically lower on certain selections once the value has been spotted !
For each tip that is published, we recommend a bookmaker to place the bet with. Of course, you can use any bookmaker that is offering odds on the specified race but there is a reason why we recommend bookies for certain bets. For example, if a tip is an Each Way selection, we may recommend a bookmaker offering Extra Places on the race. We also take odds into consideration and so if there aren’t any betting offers available on the race, we simply recommend the bookie offering the greatest odds. If you don’t have an account with the bookmaker we are suggesting to place the bet with and are interested in creating an account with them, be sure to check out our free bets page to find the latest welcome offer for that particular bookie.
