Hopefully the end of the card at Cheltenham on Friday will be worth looking forward to, as the two ante-post recommendations for WhichBookie look to have excellent chances in the Citipost Handicap Hurdle at 3.35 at Cheltenham. Now both around the 15/2 mark, everything looks right for big runs from both Kyntara and Titan Discovery.
Before that, there are several interesting races that grace Friday’s card which really do intrigue and mystify in equal measure. Nothing less than the Turners Handicap Chase at 1.50, which is a race I must admit I’ve gone around and about with an extraordinary number of times, so have admitted defeat.
However, in the opening British EBF ‘National Hunt’ Novices’ Hurdle at 12.05 at Cheltenham, there is one horse that looks wildly overpriced, notably so due to the relatively small trainer responsible for him.
At 22/1 generally, Glance At Midnight is almost big enough to have an outright each-way bet on and I wouldn’t put anyone off doing so, but given my respect for the two at the top of the market, Old Park Road and Kingston Queen, I’d much rather play Glance At Midnight at 7/1 each-way with Paddy Power or Sky Bet in their market ‘without Old Park Road and Kingston Queen.’
Other firms will offer similar markets, and I’d probably suggest anything north of about 5/1 in such a market, as Glance At Midnight’s hurdle debut win at Huntingdon was sneakily very impressive visually and on the clock. If he was trained by a big name, then without a doubt he’d be nearly single figures.
The Glenfarclas Crystal Cup Cross Country Handicap Chase at 3.00 at Cheltenham is an open and competitive edition, and while the race isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, the course and distance certainly is right up Latenightpass’s street.
In four starts over the C&D, the evergreen 12-year-old has never been out of the front 3, including winning this race two seasons ago and chasing home Stumptown at last season’s Cheltenham Festival.
While a big field and an apparently open market suggest a chunky level of competition, I don’t think this race is actually any better than any of the contests Latenightpass has excelled in previously.
While time will catch up with him at some stage, and with a third wind operation in the winter hardly being a positive, that is outweighed by his course record, the creditable seasonal reappearance on testing ground here in November and the decent ground being helpful to his finishing effort.
At 10/1 each-way with Bet365 for 4 places, or a bit if 17/2 for 5 places available with Sky Bet, Latenightpass is another 1-star * Daily Value selection for WhichBookie, and certainly one to explore some of those ‘place only’ markets also.

KINGSTON QUEEN quite simply must be a 130’s mare which means she has leading claims in a contest such as this.
She slammed a smart horse on hurdling debut into second who is now 128 rated and the third has won since too and is rated 127 themselves. Her official mark of 119 looks very light to me and the intent to take in these types of contest rather than exploiting that handicap mark speak volumes for the yards confidence behind her.
Her main rival was in receipt of 6lbs to an OK hurdler last time out and could step forward from that having only been his first run for the new yard. However, the balance of bumper form also suggests that KINGSTON QUEEN has this race at her mercy so I can understand why she’s come for support and she’ll be fine on this ground too
KINGSTON QUEEN – 2 STAR WIN @ 6/4
1:15 – Handicap Hurdle – 2m1f
Iberico Lord feels like a horse who will pop up one day. Fortune De Mar is a bit of a rogue but could win this if he wanted to so looks the most logical market leader as time goes on. I think KEL DU LARGE will be able to appreciate the slower ground and surely must have needed the run last time out after 621 days though. He could be well handicapped on the manner he’s performed in, but there is form from horse he’s beaten before now that suggest his mark is only about right so that tempers enthusiasm
KEL DU LARGE – 1 STAR WIN @ 100/30
1:50 – Handicap Chase – 3m2½f
L’Homme Presse puts the rest of the field into the 10 stone’s which has been a pointer to winners of this race in the past. The former Brown Advisory winner is an unknown coming into this given his 300 day absence but this is a big pot he goes well fresh too.
King Turgeon took this 12 months ago off a 2lb lower mark so on that basis is interesting but he’s not in the same form.
The Doyen Chief turns around after turning around at the start of the Coral Gold Cup. This isn’t as competitive as that so the relatively quick entry here would suggest he’s raring to go well but his attitude is a concern and this isn’t Newbury.
HERAKLES WESTWOOD might be the one in here though. Has won second time up the last two seasons and before that was earning his handicap mark. Loves slower ground and ran well last time behind Hung Jury who ran well at Sandown on Saturday but the big issues is he’s running 9lbs out the handicap because of L’Homme Presse
HERAKLES WESTWOOD – 1 STAR WIN @ 5/1
3:35 – Handicap Hurdle – 3m
LUCKY MANIFEST stayed on strongly last month here on slow ground and down at 2m5f but this trip looks ideal for him and he’s entitled to still be progressive for this yard on just his 3rd start for them. First time Stan Sheppard takes the reigns but he looks the type to go well here and hopefully has plenty of mileage in his mark
LUCKY MANIFEST – 2 STAR WIN @ 9/4

Our racing tips are usually published in the morning but if you’d like to be notified when a new tip is posted, you can join our horse racing tips telegram group for free. For each tip that is published, we recommend a bookmaker to place the bet with. Of course, you can use any bookmaker that is offering odds on the specified race but there is a reason why we recommend bookies for certain bets. For example, if a tip is an Each Way selection, we may recommend a bookmaker offering Extra Places on the race. We also take odds into consideration and so if there aren’t any betting offers available on the race, we simply recommend the bookie offering the greatest odds. If you don’t have an account with the bookmaker we are suggesting to place the bet with and are interested in creating an account with them, be sure to check out our free bets page to find the latest welcome offer for that particular bookie.
