SATURDAY:
In addition to the two ante-post bets for WhichBookie, which have both been declared for their respective races at Musselburgh and Sandown Park on Saturday, there are a couple of 1-star * Daily Value bets to be had following confirmed declarations.
More of that shortly, but the 7/2 EW about Kala Conti for 2 places looks a decent position in the Virgin Bet Scilly Isles Novices’ Chase at 2.40 at Sandown Park. With only 4 runners going to post, but still a market which doesn’t have Kala Contu as favourite, I think she’s still a decent win only bet until she is.
While up at Musselburgh in the Bet365 Scottish County Handicap Hurdle at 1.43 on Saturday, Static has indeed been declared under Charlie Maggs in the hood that has brought about eye-catching performances the last twice. The 20/1 is no longer available, but I’d still back him at anything 8/1+ each-way.
Both further Saturday selections were very much on the ante-post radar, but with a few elements still up in the air regarding price, jockey bookings and suitability of place terms, it was prudent to play a waiting game.
Wait no more, as in the Virgin Bet Every Saturday Money Back Handicap Chase at 2.02 at Sandown Park, there is a decent bet to be had on last year’s runner-up Dr T J Eckleburg at 15/2 each-way with William Hill. You can have 4 places with other firms but they are significantly shorter in price.
The angle with Dr T J Eckelburg is the ground being very much in his favour, plenty of signed on pace potentially setting it up for his closing style, and the fact he burst back into form at Windsor in retained first-time cheekpieces 2 weeks ago.
1.43 Musselburgh – Scottish County Handicap Hurdle – 1m7½f
This fixture has been a big target for AFADIL having landed this race in 2024, second in 2025 and prior to that he won the Scottish Triumph too here too. That brings his course form at this trip to 1124 and the latest 4th would be easy to forgive as he’s twice now underwhelmed under Olive Nicholls.
He’s a bit off a rascal and stood at the start on his penultimate run but he’s handicapped to go well in this and Freddie Keighley takes a further 7lbs off so he’s very low in the weights and is entitled to go close
AFADIL – 1 STAR WIN @ 100/30
2.02 Sandown – Handicap Chase – 1m7½f
Competitive race this but a chance is taken with KOTMASK who is a course and distance winner on soft ground and is racing off 1lb below his last winning mark. He ran well last time out despite some jumping frailties and the last three runs and 4 of his last 5 have been recording RPR’s well in excess of his current mark.
KOTMASK – 1 STAR EW @ 11/2 (4 places 1/5)
2.20 Musselburgh – Scottish Champion Chase – 2m4½f
Insurrection for Paul Nicholls and Freddie Keighley again after an impressive comeback run only scuppered by one bad mistake. He’s well handicapped on comparative RPR’s given he’s twice run in the mid 140’s, last time out and also when he won the Novice handicap on this card 12 months ago.
That was off a 5lbs lower mark but he has the 7lb claim of his jockey and without a serious error he has to be bang there and I can see him laying up with the pace getting a decent tow into things before asserting late on.
INSURRECTION – 2 STAR WIN @ 7/2
3.42 Sandown – Handicap Chase – 3m
FORTUNATE MAN has Harry Cobden riding for JP which is a huge jockey upgrade and while he’s won twice at flat left-handed Aintree he’s gone well at Carlisle this way round and he’s certainly still well handicapped despite being just 1lb out here. I think Mr Vango is a danger but his weight now and need for further than this trip mean that FORTUNATE MAN is expected to land this
FORTUNATE MAN – 2 STAR WIN @ 7/4

Our racing tips are usually published in the morning but if you’d like to be notified when a new tip is posted, you can join our horse racing tips telegram group for free. This is recommended as the odds can fluctuate and move dramatically lower on certain selections once the value has been spotted !
For each tip that is published, we recommend a bookmaker to place the bet with. Of course, you can use any bookmaker that is offering odds on the specified race but there is a reason why we recommend bookies for certain bets. For example, if a tip is an Each Way selection, we may recommend a bookmaker offering Extra Places on the race. We also take odds into consideration and so if there aren’t any betting offers available on the race, we simply recommend the bookie offering the greatest odds. If you don’t have an account with the bookmaker we are suggesting to place the bet with and are interested in creating an account with them, be sure to check out our free bets page to find the latest welcome offer for that particular bookie.
